What shall we do with these wisps of time that we have?

So staring into this space I have started to lose it a little. Obviously, since I was determined to use the word WISPS! :)

I've lost all of you guys. I can feel it and I don't like it. I want to know what I can do to catch little wisps of you back.

What would drive you back? Staring at a computer gets old, but its also all we have right now to keep us all together.

All those yellow post-its are about YOU! What types of things can we do in the future since things are so up in the air and crazy recently?

There is just so much out there now since everyone is stuck in their houses and everyone is just so bored! So people are creating all these videos and live streaming things, but have they created what YOU want and need? We keep trying to come up with ideas of things we can do for you, but what can we REALLY do? Since we have no idea what this summer is going to be like, we can come up with ideas, but we want YOUR ideas! Please let us know and get creative! I need something new to explore so let's do it together!

Awesome photo of Chrissy's daughter on Facebook celebrating National Library Week. She looks like a future storytelling librarian. She held the book PERFECTLY!
Hope you enjoyed reading the book too. Wonder what it was?

What have you been reading during this time you've been home? Let us know! We always love new suggestions of books to read. <3

Missing my friends and family

It has really gotten a lot harder recently. I'm a very people oriented person (thank goodness as a public librarian!) and not being able to see people has been really hard. Zoom meetings are okay, but not really the same thing. So I've come up with a little solution. Doesn't really provide the same thing as seeing people, but it has helped.
I've been crocheting hearts for those people that are really important to me, and as I crochet
I try and think about them and how important they are to me. I also have to do a lot of counting to make sure that it looks like a heart and not a blob, so that helps to distract me as well.
This is the pattern that I used:
https://www.lilleliis.com/amigurumi-crochet-freebies/amigurumi-heart-pattern/
Okay, so maybe you can't crochet, but i bet you have something that you are talented at: painting, drawing, making things out of playdough or clay. You can do something like that and make it for people that are important to you. Think about them and what they mean to you when you're making it so that it helps distract you and it helps to make it more meaningful.
Try it! It has helped me. See what it can do for you!

Lots of Time to bond with your kids I hope!

I have had lots of time to bond with my kids, especially my daughter. A friend of mine found out that a local painter is teaching painting classes for free on Tuesdays and Fridays at 4pm on Facebook. Her studio is 2U Painting Studio. She has been really wonderful with the kids and I have had a blast painting with Leila. (The two closest paintings were different. The orangy one is melted crayons and the yellowy one is s self-portrait.)
Its been a lot of fun painting with her. I don't even have all of the paintings up yet. When I do I'll post a better picture of them. :)
What are you guys doing to bond with your kids? I'd love to know so that I can find new things to do with mine as well. :)
Our family is also going to do a game night with my sisters' families through Google Hangouts. We all have Candyland so we're all going to play "together". What a great way to connect with little ones that might not have the attention span to sit and chat for too long. I'll tell you all how it goes and hopefully you try it with your families too!
Stay safe everyone. I miss you all tons!

What do you do to change things up during this time?

Leila and I decided to create a puppet for Seedly. She designed the eyes and bow and I sewed up the rest as well as crocheted her two legs. I am growing weary of staring at a computer. :) Learning lots of new things, but I needed to change things up a bit.
My next plan is that if I can find some glue, I will make more flannel pieces for storytime. What kinds of creatures should I make?
What have you guys been doing to pass the time (besides all your school/work work)?

There were 11 of these images hidden throughout the website. Most people found most of them, so great job everyone! Hope you enjoyed finding out a little about our website.
My favorite comment about what you learned on the website was that:
"Miss Cathy is on the computer! How are you on the computer- you don't live there!" from Kailyn. She is one of my storytime friends, so it was fun that she got to see me virtually. :)
It was also exciting that people learned that we have hamsters  (Chrysanthemum and Rosie for those of you that don't know) and that we have a makerspace, as well as tons of free things for you to read.

The very beginning of writing

4/10/2020

This artwork is by my nephew Brian and it's Spiderman!
What you think might be "chicken scratch" or scribbles is actually the beginning to writing.
In this article in the Educators Voice journal:
The process of drawing and writing in a series stimulates children to make connections between letters, words and visual symbols. It sparks their interest in acquiring the skills to communicate their ideas through images and words.
So while you might just think its  a waste of paper, its actually a stepping stone to their adventures in reading and writing!

One way that you can keep the conversation going is to ask them to tell you a story about what is going on in the picture. Want to keep it going even further? Write down that story in nice big easy to read letters. It lets them see that 1. what they are saying is important enough to write down and 2. What they are saying can become "pictures" on paper.
Why not try and see?
Have a great safe day everyone. Try and enjoy the snow!

Trying something a little different

So I'm trying to learn lots of new things while this thing is happening. And I thought I would share some of my new tidbits. One of the things that I learned is about the importance of play with your little ones. One way of doing that is through songs and "fingerplays" such as "Five little Piggies". Therefor, I will be sharing yet MORE video fun with different fingerplays.
This is what happens when you can't sleep. You go a little crazy. :)
