Paper and chalk

If you haven't been at our past two "Explore Your Imagination" programs, shame on you! We had a blast!
On the 19th, we had paper airplane wars.  There are an amazing amount of types of airplanes and we have the paper to prove it! There are some very helpful websites that have awesome and have very detailed directions. The one I really liked was Fold N Fly. I wish I had taken pictures, because there were a massive amount of airplanes in the room, but I was afraid I would get attacked. We also made helicopters, and with a little paper and a paper clip, WALLAH! A helicopter. You can get the templatehere.

On the 26th, we had chalk games. But not just ANY chalk games, we had crazy stuff going on in here! Thanks to our guest Katie, who is a library student. In her own words:
I had a really great time watching the children construct their Mini Chalk Bots.  (I was blown away by their designs and not surprised at all that their creations worked WAY better than the examples I made the night before.)
You guys should be so proud of your creativity!

She had so many awesome ideas! It was tremendous to have her fresh new ideas. She is welcome here again ANYTIME!  Here were just a few of her ideas:

General madness

Okay, so your librarian Cathy gets crazy ideas sometimes. Great example, trying to keep together a blog. Yeah, right. Of course, that was random stuff. This spot is for technology, which is my favorite thing of all time. I love gizmos and stuff. :) I may not be good at it (just ask my science and math teachers from high school) but I still love this stuff.
This is my way of saying that I will try and be a good girl and keep you all up to date. Especially since we are an OFFICIAL MAKER CAMP!
Okay, so what do I mean we are an "official" maker camp. What I mean is that anyone can make things at libraries, but we are on the map! Of course, it sort of means extra work by making more of the world know what we are doing by way doing things that we are already doing, but before you didn't know we were doing it ;) and now you (AND THE WORLD) does!
So here are the things we are doing for the next few weeks:

Week 3: Airplane Wars and, hopefully, a Plastic Plate UFO and Light Up Roto Copter. Gotta make sure I can find all the supplies, but if we do ...

Week 4: Chalk Games

Week 5: Mazes - Life-size and smaller

Week 6: Doodling and Henna

Week 2: Today we got to see ROBOTS!
The most awesome robots ever. The Churchville-Chili First Team came and visited us with their robots.
They had this robot that would shoot balls and everyone would have to try and catch them. They even let us drive them! I am totally bummed though because most people wouldn't drive them. Luckily our robot Dash was there to protect us all and people drove him around.
More about them ...
Operating out of Churchville-Chili Senior High School, we are a collection of students from Rochester (NY) Area school districts. Although our team works 52 weeks a year on many different projects, each January through April we take part in the FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC®).

Week 1: Today we had explored our imagination with building.
We used a bunch of brand new legos that I had to buy because there were pink and purple ones. We had a group of ladies who especially liked those. Two girls and their three adults made awesome creations.
Totally jealous that I was helping everyone else and couldn't play too.  We got some new Lego people as well. Plus some pretty creepy looking snowmen.
Just after the program we got these cool things called little bits and I CANNOT wait to use them with the legos!
I will, of course, be needing some help, because these look super crazy. :)
