She is still in my thoughts, but this beautiful event makes it real again. The event is not at Chili Library, but at Irondequoit Library, but still I thought I should make people aware since without her there would be no Teen Book Festival. The Teen Book Festival changed many peoples' lives, including people in Chili, so I thought I should let you know.

My children are proof that everyone is unique

No, I won't use this as a time to embarrass my kids, even though we know that its every parent's favorite past time. Still, my children are definitely unique individuals.
My 9 year old daughter let me know that she wants to be a published author/illustrator. But she doesn't write/draw just any kinds of books. Her newest story has to do with a turkey trying to tell everyone that there  is someone trying to eat them, but soon after he convinces them ... he gets eaten. Poor dear. If she lets me, I'll have to post the whole story.
Then there is my son, the 13 year old, who loves music. He plays the drums, but he especially  loves the piano, which is why my house has a stand up piano, a synthesizer and, as of today, a melodica. Yes, I know what you're thinking, I wondered myself. A melodica is a little piano that has a mouth piece you blow into. Yup. You heard me right. Not only that he is already playing full out songs on it. Don't believe me? Tomorrow morning I'm making him bring it to play at the library, because everyone needs a little melodica in their lives.
So what makes your kids unique? We all need to know!

I love learning about new things. I feel it makes me stronger as a librarian. So today I learned about teen engagement and leadership. This is something I am super excited about. I would love if our teens came up with ideas, planned their ideas and executed their ideas. All we would need to do is provide money for supplies and some tips if there were things that they could accomplish faster and easier.
Something I would like to make use of is our green screen. Plus I would like to have a reason to purchase some cameras and microphones. It would be awesome if the teens would come up with podcasts and videos. All of their creation, as long as its not naughty. Some teens have come up with some incredible ideas and I know that our teens could come up with even more incredible ones. :)
Now to find a time that they can do it. More difficult than them actually creating the actual video.

Fourth of July parade was a blast!

OMGosh. It was so hot. I don't know how people stayed out as long as they did, but I'm glad they did, because there was a great crowd that was there to watch the parade ... which we were in!
Michael over here was an awesome volunteer. He kept the energy flowing in this horrendous heat. Thanks goodness, because I was ready to melt into a puddle.
This was the first year that I got to be in the float and not be a walker. I think everyone was afraid of my bright red face that I was ready to pass out. Even so, it was totally worth it because there were a lot of awesome faces that I recognized and that made me happy. :)
