Technology Night

8/23/2018

... oh technology. I had written a lovely post and you then managed to disappear into the ether...
So tonight was technology night. We had some of our favorites out and some new things too. We had Osmo Monster and Dash the robot, but we also had a new portable green screen, Ozobots and Bloxels. What are some of the new technologies that you would like to see or learn about at the library? If I can't get it, I would still love to learn about it.
One of the technologies i would really like to learn about more, while its not new, its still really interesting to me. Podcasting. I really want to work out how to do a podcast. First I need to figure out the tools (I have gone to some training, so I have a list of the tools, just need to find the list) then I need to find the enthusiastic kids/teens that would like to express their interests. Then we need to find topics that would be easy to keep talking about and would be interesting to the general population. Easier said than done, I'm sure, but I am determined. I want to do it!
Any thoughts? Please, pretty please, let me know!

Today ended summer reading at the library

Today was the end. As always we ended with a bang. I have the pictures to prove it. Just can't attach them yet. My legs look like they have been beaten up and my feet look like they've been stepped on. Totally worth it though, because we had lots of people that had lots of fun.
Why do my hands, arms, legs and feet look this way? Its from our favorite way to end the summer, with tie dye. So many people had a blast, so even though it was a lot of work and a lot of mess, it was totally worth it.
Today was also the last day to enter raffle tickets, because we are drawing prizes Monday morning before the library opens. If you have sheets you haven't entered in yet, we still have small prizes left though.
Plus I got stung by a bee. But that's a whole other story.

Its National Left Handers Day!

Sort of glad that I didn't post last Thursday! Now I can post about one of my favorite days of the year! Left handers have such a hard time. Desks, scissors, pens and pencils and even COFFEE MUGS hate us. Still, I think its super cool that my grandmother is a lefty, my sister is a lefty, my husband is a lefty and I am a lefty!
Unfortunately, college desks are set up so that you need to write with your body turned at weird angles unless you are a righty. Scissors don't cut easily and can really hurt your thumb unless you are a righty. Pens and pencils get rubbed off on the paper and onto the side of your hand unless you are a righty. And coffee mugs? Coffee mugs are all pretty and decorative unless you are a lefty. Then you can't see all the witty things that are written on the other side. So while I think its super awesome to be a lefty, I'm pretty sure that the righties do not.

Our new friend at the library

So we have a new friend at the library ... Pikachu! He likes to help out at a lot of library things, including storytime sometimes! Today we had one of the dental hygienists and Pockets the kangaroo come for a visit and talk about how important it is to brush and floss your teeth. Pikachu had to get in the action and came  for a visit to brush his teeth too. We tried to explain to him that his tooth brush was a little too big for him, but he decided he would figure out a way to get it into his mouth.
Make sure you keep an eye out because Pikachu has found his way into our hearts and I think he's bound to show up again soon!
