Have you ever considered joining the Friends of
Chili Public Library Board? If not, now's the time! You would be joining a
group of like-minded, community spirited individuals who actively support the library in many ways.
The Friends' Mission is to promote and support the
library by providing supplemental financial assistance for the purpose of
purchasing special materials and equipment and sponsoring programs for the
cultural and educational life of the community.
As a member of the Board you would have a voice in
plans for fund raising activities, programming sponsorship, and allocation of
Friends resources in support of our mission.
Meetings are conducted on the second Tuesday of
each month at 6 pm in the Chili Public Library Conference Room. If you are
interested in joining the board, please contact Marcia Johnson, Friends Liaison
at the library 889-2200. |

Bob Marcotte, former Democrat and Chronicle columnist and
author of "Where They Fell: Stories of Rochester Area Soldiers During the Civil
War", was the guest speaker at the Chili Public Library on Wednesday, April
10. Bob talked about the hundreds of soldiers from the Rochester area who
fought at the famous battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War. These
Rochesterians were directly engaged in every key part of this turning point
battle. Approximately 50 library patrons listened
attentively as Bob shared stories of six local regiments and batteries involved
in the fighting. At the end of the talk Mr. Marcotte fielded questions from the
audience.
This program is an example of the many programs made
available to you by the Friends of Chili Public Library. Upcoming programs
include a travelogue on the Thousand Islands and Finger Lakes scheduled for
Sunday, April 21 at 1:30 pm in the Library's Barbara Ireland Room. For
additional programs, please check out the library website at www.chililibrary.org. |

The mission of the Friends of Chili Public Library
is to support the mission of the Chili Public Library. One of the ways we do
this as a non-profit is to raise funds to pay for programs, supplies, materials
and services that couldn't ordinarily be offered to the community.
Historically, we run book sales a couple of times a year, we also have been
holding raffles to raise funds.
There are a couple of other ways in which we raise
funds:
o Recycling - we are using a company called
"Imagine It" to help fund-raise through recycling. In the library front foyer
is a box where anyone can deposit specific recyclable products such as printer
cartridges, PDA's, Cell phones, MP3's, digital cameras, laptops, camcorders, CPS
devices, satellite radios, DVD players, USB Memory keys, gaming devices and
external hard drives. These items are collected then forwarded to "Imagine
It" who, in turn, donates financially to the Friends of Chili Public Library.
This is a convenient way for you to recycle and for the library to raise
funds. In this way we can all keep reusable items out of landfills and support
library at the same time.
o Donate your Car! If you have a car,
truck, van, boat or real estate that you want to dispose of, consider donating
it to the Library! By calling 1-800-320-0476 you can speak with a live
operator 7 days a week to coordinate a free pick-up. All donations are tax
deductible. It doesn't matter if your vehicle is running or not in most
cases. |
