I always enjoyed fantasy when I was a kid. I loved reading Jane Yolen and Tamora Pierce (and still do). I also loved fairy tales. The Grimm's Brothers fairy tales were all so dark and disastrous, yet somehow I loved them all like they were my close friends. I have a copy of the complete Grimm Brothers that I loved to read as a kid.

Hansel and Gretel

Hansel and Gretel with the Witch on the doorstep of her cottage, illustration by Arthur Rackham for Grimm's Fairy Tales, 1909.

So pick up a fun fantasy/fairy tale and get your last special bead of the summer! At the end of the week/beginning of next week we will draw prize winners, so keep an eye out!

We're on my favorite week! I love graphic novels and comic books. I love everything that Raina Telgemeier writes, especially Guts. There are also tons of authors coming out with excellent stand-alone graphic novels that are just precious. One that I'm reading now is the Cheshire Crossing, which is ...

Cheshire Crossing is a funny, breakneck, boundlessly inventive journey through classic worlds as you've never seen them before. Years after their respective returns from Wonderland, Neverland, and Oz, the trio meet here, at Cheshire Crossing--a boarding school where girls like them learn how to cope with their supernatural experiences and harness their magical world-crossing powers. But Alice, Wendy, and Dorothy--now teenagers, who've had their fill of meddling authority figures--aren't content to sit still in a classroom. Soon they're dashing from one universe to the next, leaving havoc in their wake--and, inadvertently, bringing the Wicked Witch and Hook together in a deadly supervillain love match. To stop them, the girls will have to draw on all of their powers . . . and marshal a team of unlikely allies from across the magical multiverse.

July 26-Aug 1: audio book

This week its all about audio books. This is a hard one. The reader can make or break an audio book. So far I'm really enjoying the reader for Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky, by Kwame Mbalia and read by Amir Abdullah. It is a fun read when the reader does all the voices and he is awesome at it.
Just so you know ... On August 11 (Tuesday) at 6pm we are doing a book discussion of it for ages 8-12. You really should sign up because its going to be tons of fun!

This week if you read a book about something real (a book about animals, space, or cooking for example) you get a UV bead! These beads change color in the sun. :) I love them so much, it makes me want to read some more!
Not sure what to read? Come check out our new non-fiction collection, which is by our garden door.

Our mascot has been waiting for the perfect time to really stand out and we decided what better time than summer when the theme is "Imagine Your Story"?
Spark will make his way around the library inside and outside and all around Chili. Just keep your eyes open for finding out when and where you might catch him! :)

Right now we are hard at work making sure that you can have both a fun and safe summer.
We are going to do dog tags and beads again this year since it was such a big hit. We are going to make it safer by bagging thousands of these things for you so that you can just come to the library and pick them up beginning in July.
