CPL Native Plant Garden

The CPL Native Plant Garden was designed and installed in 2022-2023 for the Chili Public Library by the Hubbard Springs Garden Club of Chili for educational programing purposes and community enjoyment and enrichment. Funding was provided to the garden club through a grant from the 7th District of the Federated Garden Clubs of NY State.

The CPL Native Plant Garden site is located on the south side of the Chili Community Center in full sun in clay soil with average to dry water conditions. Undeveloped fields surround the complex. The garden primarily consists of perennial plants native to New York State and the United States, chosen for their appeal to pollinators as host plants and nectar and pollen sources. “Deer resistance” was also a factor in plant choices. Annual flowers and herbs have been incorporated to extend the diversity of nectar and pollen sources as well as enhance the aesthetic appeal of the garden.

Be sure to visit the CPL Native Plant Garden during Spring and Summer from 9:00am – 4:45pm, when the library is open.
