So between August 15-21 you can read all things non-fiction ... also known as "real" things:
000 Generalities
100 Philosophy & psychology
200 Religion
300 Social sciences
400 Language
500 Natural sciences & mathematics
600 Technology (Applied sciences)
700 The arts
800 Literature & rhetoric
900 Geography & history

I put "real" in quotations though because not everything in non-fiction is really real... unicorns (398.245), scary stories (398.2), comic books (741.5) poetry (811) ... but many of the non-fiction books are real: dinosaurs (567.9), cats (599.7), fire trucks (628.9), ice skating (796.9).

Curious as to what your favorite topic falls under? Just ask and we can find something for you!

An audio book reader can make or break a book. Some readers that are incredible are: Tim Curry (Series of Unfortunate Events) Jim Dale (Harry Potter) and David Tennant (How to Train Your Dragon). Want more suggestions? Check out this article from Book Riot's website.
Don't have a cd player anymore? Try out Libby, the library's ebook and e-audiobook app! Google Play Store app and Apple App Store.

Jul 25-31: fairy Tales

7/26/2021

Happy Monday!
We have a whole area dedicated to fairy tales that Miss Laura keeps together for us. Fairy tales (also known as myth or folklore) have an interesting history. They were originally oral tales and some date back to the bronze age.
According to this BBC article:
"They have been told since before even English, French and Italian existed. They were probably told in an extinct Indo-European language." In the 19th Century, authors the Brothers Grimm believed many of the fairy tales they popularised, including Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel and Snow White, were rooted in a shared cultural history dating back to the birth of the Indo-European language family.
You have to watch out for some of those fairy tales btw. Some are awful dark!

We've begun our second week, which means...

Biographies! This week try and read a biography.
We have biographies about real people and biographies about fake people:

We have "fake" biographies in our series books. They're under "Dear America". These are biographies about kids during different time periods throughout American history.

Our "real" biographies are in the corner of the children's room. I've been trying to purchase lots of new and exciting biographies about different people that you may not have heard of, so check out our new books as well. I've also been buying some biographies about multiple people, scientists, explorers, athletes and more.

Have someone you really want to learn more about, but we don't have it? Just ask and I'll see if I can find something!

We're on my favorite week! I love graphic novels and comic books. I love everything that Raina Telgemeier writes, especially Guts. There are also tons of authors coming out with excellent stand-alone graphic novels that are just precious. One that I'm reading now is the Cheshire Crossing, which is ...

Cheshire Crossing is a funny, breakneck, boundlessly inventive journey through classic worlds as you've never seen them before. Years after their respective returns from Wonderland, Neverland, and Oz, the trio meet here, at Cheshire Crossing--a boarding school where girls like them learn how to cope with their supernatural experiences and harness their magical world-crossing powers. But Alice, Wendy, and Dorothy--now teenagers, who've had their fill of meddling authority figures--aren't content to sit still in a classroom. Soon they're dashing from one universe to the next, leaving havoc in their wake--and, inadvertently, bringing the Wicked Witch and Hook together in a deadly supervillain love match. To stop them, the girls will have to draw on all of their powers . . . and marshal a team of unlikely allies from across the magical multiverse.

This week if you read a book about something real (a book about animals, space, or cooking for example) you get a UV bead! These beads change color in the sun. :) I love them so much, it makes me want to read some more!
Not sure what to read? Come check out our new non-fiction collection, which is by our garden door.

Our mascot has been waiting for the perfect time to really stand out and we decided what better time than summer when the theme is "Imagine Your Story"?
Spark will make his way around the library inside and outside and all around Chili. Just keep your eyes open for finding out when and where you might catch him! :)
