That's right! Love your fluffy friends even more today! I should take my little guys out from under my desk. Show them some deserved love. I do have one fluffy friend ... a puppy dog that I've forgotten the name of (shame on me) that I still leave in my bedroom on my bed. For the most part though, all my fluffy friends have made their way here to the library, where I can see them and appreciate them everyday. Want to come see them? Please come by when I'm here and you can say hi! I'm not here? My tsum-tsums are! Just check out the display case (which you can borrow to display your loved items) and see who I have! As for what we have going on this week ... Minecraft Monday at 6pm Witches and Wizards Tuesday at 4:30 Sip, Swap and Share: Toys Tuesday at 7pm Please come by on Halloween in your costume! We'd love to see you. :) Halloween costumes! I have to think about four costumes ... well maybe three. Jack, my 14 year old, is probably too old to think about costumes, you think? My daughter, Leila, who is 10, is super excited and wants to be one of the characters from the anime Fairy Tale. How I'm going to do that, I don't know. So that's two down, two to go. The rest are for me. :)
I need to dress up for the Halloween party on October 26 at the library and I need a costume for a 5k that I'm running called "Scare Away Brain Cancer" earlier in the month. I have a little idea what I could do for the Halloween party. I have two pajama onesies. A dragon one and a unicorn one. Which one do you think I should be? As for the 5k, I'm thinking about being Minnie Mouse. That's a little harder because you want to wear something that you can actually run comfortably in, but that is obvious enough to tell what you are. This could be a safe one. :) So what are you going to be for Halloween? This goes for kids, teens and adults! Let me know! I will of course, make sure to post pictures of said costumes as soon as I wear them. Promise. Fall is here and with that comes school and all of the library's new programs. We have started all of our fall programs this week. Something that we are super excited about .... drumroll please .... I know, I know. We're very silly over here at Chili Library. However, we have had children with lice and what you think you know and what is true are two very different things. Super important things to learn, especially now that school has started again. Please feel free to register for Facts of Lice here!
We actually have quite a few events coming up that have school in mind that you can register for. Some of them registration is now and some, registration starts later. Healthy Lunchtime Snacks with the Storybook Cook Wednesday, September 18th at 7pm Preschool Open House Tuesday, October 29 from 6:30-8:30pm Hair Helpers Saturday, November 23 at 2pm I'm okay with this national holiday! Lasagna is one of our family favorites. Probably not during the summer, when its too hot to use the oven, but hey, I don't care if I'm at a restaurant. :) Onto some of our fun stuff this week... This Tween Crafternoon on Wednesday, July 31 at 3pm we will be making Starry Windchimes. Sounds like fun! (Registration Required) The Lunar Lander has been at the Rochester Museum and Science Center and the man (Barry Nobles) bringing it is a wealth of knowledge. He'll be here on Wednesday too from 6-8pm. You can't miss it! Our favorite dance instructor, Rosalind Walker, is back and this time we will be dancing our hearts out! We'll be meeting on Thursday, August 1 at 2:30pm. (Registration Required) Our annual Teddy Bear Sleepover is back as well. Come and join me and Miss Jill as we tell lots of sleepy stories as you cuddle up with your favorite friends. Join us Thursday at 7:15pm after Lego Club, which is at 6pm. We have everything you could need (besides books of course) ... we have audio books, ebooks, audio ebooks and launchpads, which are tablets with no internet access, but access to a plethora of games on a certain topic. To see our kids audiobook collection, click here. To see our teen audiobook collection, click here. To see our launchpad collection, click here. To see our kids audio ebook collection, click here. To see our teen audio ebook collection, click here. To see our kids ebook collection, click here. To see our teen ebook collection, click here. New to ebooks/ audio ebooks? Come in and let us show you how to put them on your smart phone or tablet. Once they are downloaded you don't need to be on wifi/data so there's no worries there. Also, they come off your phone after 3 weeks (unless you are able to renew it) so that there are no fines! Summer is almost here, and with summer comes school visits. WOW! So much energy! Its crazy! I am in awe of the teachers and how they can handle all the enthusiasm all day. WOW and DOUBLE WOW!
This morning we were at Chestnut Ridge and got to see the K-1 and the 3-4 grades in an auditorium setting. There were at least 50 kids if not more each time and they were so enthusiastic. It was great because I was thrilled that they were so excited to hear all the things that we were doing, but I was also bummed because they probably didn't hear half of what we were saying. Luckily we made sure to have brochures that the kids could take home. Hopefully their enthusiasm continues throughout the day and until they get home so that they can tell you all the exciting things they learned. Some of the exciting things to note: They get raffle tickets that have blocks for them to fill in. They read 20 minutes a day and each twenty minutes they get a special bead to put on their necklace (that they get when they register). There is also a special bead that they can get for reading their special topic of the week. Each week bring in their raffle ticket book and they get a bead for each 20 minutes read. Plus they get a special bead for reading the special topic. Then they put their raffle ticket in the box they want (we're giving away books, Rochester Museum and Science Center tickets, a telescope, gift cards and everyone's favorite BIKES!) and at the end of our six weeks, we draw the winners! Yippee! Any questions, just let me know!
Okay back to Open Hours. You can borrow one of our "green stickered" items and play with it in either the Make-A-Story Room or in the children's room. If you decide on something new, you can return it to the reference desk and get something new!
If you want to play with something a little more "serious" like our yellow or red stickered items, you can fill out a form that lets you know you are responsible if something breaks while you are playing with it. You can also get trained to use our 3d printer and cricut machine. With the 3d printer you have to pay for the wire we use and for the cricut machine you have to bring in your own supplies. Any questions, just ask! Tonight at 6pm we'll be having our Young Librarians group. Want to get more involved in the library and happen to be between the ages 8-12? Join us then! We do lots of fun things such as creating videos just like the one below that Mason created. Thursday evening we also have a special Mother's Day storytime at 7:15pm. You can sign up here. We'll be reading fun stories and at the end we'll be doing a craft that you can give to your Mom as a gift!
Mr Baker will be here to help with making paper cranes and so will I! ... well I will "be here". As to my ability to make paper cranes? Nope. No such luck. I will be here for moral support.
Today is also World Wish Day! Officially, its in honor of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, however there's no reason not to make a wish on your own. Need some help making a wish? Come in and get a wishing star from the children's room or from circulation and we can get you on your way! |
