We've started planning for the summer! This summer's theme is "Imagine Your Story", featuring fantasy and mythology.
Once again we will be doing dog tags this summer and if you read fifteen minutes a day you'll get a bead for each day to show off your mad reading skills!
The staff are super excited to dress up as princesses throughout the summer and do tons of programs based around fantasy and mythology.
Some of the highlights ...
Fairy Gardens for ages 8-12 and 13-18
The Mobile Planetarium for grades k-2 and 3-5
Omnipresent Puppet Theater Presents: Beauty and the Beast
Princess Tea Party (I will be dressed as Merida! She's my favorite!)

I love chocolate (especially the dark kind). It is my total downfall. Add some peanut butter and I'm a goner. I love making chocolate fondue and just dipping whatever I can in it. Such heaven. :)
Try these suggestions:
  • Bananas and peanut butter
  • Cookies
  • Potato chips
  • Orange wedges
  • Ritz crackers
  • Biscotti
  • Peanut brittle
  • Marshmallows
  • Fudge
  • Shortbread
  • Ice cream
If you like chocolate, what is your favorite thing to cover in chocolate?

In other news we are having Science Club on Thursday. We will be making some very festive, delightful smelling items that you can take home with you, so come in and check it out!

That's right! Love your fluffy friends even more today! I should take my little guys out from under my desk. Show them some deserved love. I do have one fluffy friend ... a puppy dog that I've forgotten the name of (shame on me) that I still leave in my bedroom on my bed. For the most part though, all my fluffy friends have made their way here to the library, where I can see them and appreciate them everyday. Want to come see them? Please come by when I'm here and you can say hi! I'm not here? My tsum-tsums are! Just check out the display case (which you can borrow to display your loved items) and see who I have!

As for what we have going on this week ...
Minecraft Monday at 6pm
Witches and Wizards Tuesday at 4:30
Sip, Swap and Share: Toys Tuesday at 7pm

Please come by on Halloween in your costume! We'd love to see you. :)

For ages 8-12

Love telling stories? I love listening, and I’m sure that there are others who do as well! We will be taking your stories and making a podcast which will be put on our website.

Not so comfortable talking out loud? Have artistic abilities? Write down and illustrate your own work! It may get published and added to our collection.

Not sure what story you want to tell? We will have games that we use to create stories that you can make your own.

Still working on the podcasting portion. I have to figure out where I'm going to store all the audio so that we can put them up on the website, but I'm working on it.

I just want to hear your stories! I love interesting and strange stories, and I'm sure that you have them waiting for me in your brains!

We have a contest we need to win and we need your help!

Ever heard of the NY 529 Direct Plan? It's a type of investment account you can use for higher-education savings.
Picture
Even if you haven't heard of the 529, you've seen their bookmarks. :)
They are doing a contest right now that if you take a picture with one of their bookmarks we could be entered into a contest to win $100! Everyone loves winning money, so come in and help us win! All you need to do is take a picture with one of their handy dandy bookmarks and it brings us closer to being a winner.

What else is happening?

I'm super excited about tonight. Its our first "Chat with Cat". For ages 8-12

Fall is here and with that comes school and all of the library's new programs. We have started all of our fall programs this week. Something that we are super excited about .... drumroll please ....
Picture
I know, I know. We're very silly over here at Chili Library. However, we have had children with lice and what you think you know and what is true are two very different things. Super important things to learn, especially now that school has started again. Please feel free to register for Facts of Lice here!
We actually have quite a few events coming up that have school in mind that you can register for. Some of them registration is now and some, registration starts later.

Week 6 ... its the last so hurry in!

Week 6 is a mystery ... SERIOUSLY! Its a mystery! Read something mysterious to get the special bead, which is a totally fabulous one. Some mysterious things to try out.
Before I tell you what to read, let me tell you what programs to go to! Unfortunately, you may have missed out on our big end of the summer blow out, Tie Dye. We had an amazing time this morning and afternoon, and although it was pretty messy for the staff, we had an amazing time.
Tonight (Monday) at 6pm we have Minecraft. Bring in your tablet/laptop or come and borrow ours.
Wednesday at 10am we will be showing a movie about a yellow detective. Curious and want to learn more? Call and ask!
Thursday at 10am is Simply Stories with Pockets the Kangaroo from our local dentist, Dr Shea.
Thursday at 2:30pm we have KidsFit Conditioning, where we will be getting a great workout for our hearts! Interested? Register here.

Onto the book recommendations!
Picture
Miss Nelson is Missing by Harry Allard is a fun mystery picture book. The kids in Room 207 take advantage of their teacher's good nature until she disappears and they are faced with a vile substitute. They decide to figure out how to get Miss Nelson back!

Picture
Cam Jansen, by David Adler is one of my favorites! She has photographic memory, but every time she is trying to remember something important related to the mystery she's going to solve, she says "CLICK", just like an old school camera.

Picture
Nate the Great, by Marjorie Sharmat is a great series for younger, beginning readers. You can get introduced to the detective mystery and problem-solve with Nate!

Picture
For you older people, check out Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Grabenstein. It is a great and silly mystery that will keep you on your toes the whole time.
When Kyle learns that the world's most famous game maker, Luigi Lemoncello, has designed the town's new library and is having an invitation-only lock-in on opening night, he's determined to be there But the tricky part isn't getting into the library--it's getting out. Because when morning comes, the doors stay locked. Kyle and the other kids must solve every clue and figure out every secret puzzle to find the hidden escape route.

Week Five of Summer Reading

8/5/2019

This week we're reading SILLY and HUMOROUS books!
Picture
One of my favorites is Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems, especially when he starts screaming "LET ME DRIVE THE BUS!" and he gets crazy eyes. :)
If you love the pigeon, there's a whole series to love.

Picture
For beginning readers, we have Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish. This series is about a quirky and confused maid named Amelia Bedelia. She's constantly doing things in her own way, which is usually different from how anyone else in the world would do things.

Picture
For you older people, check out Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Lois Sachar. The school was built ... you guessed it ... sideways, so instead of 30 classrooms long, its 30 classrooms high. This is about the class in room 13 who are delightfully eccentric and unusually gifted. This is a brilliant story of a very mixed-up and crazy school where only strange things happen.

Onto some of the fun programs
we'll be having this week!

Tuesday at 2pm we have five seats left for Kids Crafternoon.
You can register here.
Wednesday at 10am we are showing a movie about an elephant with big special ears. :) Hope you know what I'm talking about. If not, come in and ask!
Thursday at 2pm we have 20 seats left for our 4H group. This week we'll be doing fun things with plants!
You can register here.
Finally on Friday at 3pm, we have “Out of this World Etiquette... In a Galaxy Far, Far Away” you can learn mealtime manners, with Star Wars themed cupcakes and galaxy punch. Feel free to come dressed as your favorite character, if you wish, and get ready to explore, soar and discover etiquette & manners.
You can register here.
