You who come will be the first to see our new "toy". I use quotes due to the fact that this is more than a toy. I expect lots of learning to come out of this.

Yes. Today is seriously "Revenge of the Sith". And its not only because its the day after "May the Fourth" and so we need to let the dark sith lords have their special time. Its been so dark and gloomy. Nothing works correctly and even I can't work correctly. Everyone I've spoken to today would like to blow something up and hide under a big dark cloak. So far, no one has discussed blowing up Alderaan, but hey, you never know, its only just after 3pm. I personally, love hiding under big dark cloaks and so when I am purchasing jackets, I make an attempt at seeing if I can hide my whole face in it. Its almost as if you could disappear into another world in that dark "cotton jacket" cave, without having to search out for a real one. Those are too damp and they have bats usually. I love having it so I can just see enough that I can read a book and maybe munch on some popcorn or drink some coffee. Oh and melancholy music. Can't forget to have melancholy music playing. I wonder what Anakin Skywalker was thinking about while he had his hood up in his angry looking cloak? He always looked like there was a big tennis match going on in his head. "good guy. no. bad guy. no. good guy. I hate the universe. no. the universe is good. no." .... that is way too much work to go on inside a mind wrapped up in a hooded cloak. Sometimes I even wonder what kind of music did he listen to, especially on dark and gloomy days. Do you think he listened to music that would make him even gloomier? Yeah, probably. What do you do on dark and gloomy days? I hope you at least spend some of the time curled up and reading a book. Are there certain things you like to do in order to brighten the atmosphere, or do you just accept that its a dark and gloomy day and go with it? Is there music you like to listen to or food you like to eat on dark and gloomy days? Come on! Tell me your dark and gloomy day stories! We had an awesome time and it was very cool to see the reasoning behind their choices on how they created and edited their images. There were some very awesome photos and I'm glad I wasn't a judge because it would have been extremely difficult to find a winner. Here is winner for the 1st place and the Ten Items Viewers Choice awards for the 16-18 year range. My blog is one of those ones that you don't read because the person is too "lazy" or distracted to write a new post. Well, I am probably a little of both, but I hope I'm more distracted and busy coming up with new programs to entertain everyone with and that is the reason I don't have time to post.
So for those of you that actually read the blog (probably just me as I type) the Friends of the Library are buying us a 3d printer! We have been wanting one for quite a while, but you have to do lots of research in order to get one. When you're going to be having a lot of awesome people using it, you want it to be good! ... and I am positive we are going to have lots of awesome people using it! Onto the really awesome stuff. So we want you guys to create pieces of art. Yes, you can copy other people's work, but we want you to bring out your artistic abilities! So here it is! We need you to use an online software that is called Tinkercad. How it works: 1. Place: Shapes are basic building blocks of Tinkercad. A shape can add or remove material. Import your own, or work with existing shapes. 2. Adjust: Move, rotate and adjust shapes freely in space. Use tools like the ruler to input exact dimensions. 3. Combine: Group together a set of shapes to create models as detailed as you want. Easy peasy lemon squeezy! Now we need you to learn how to use it and create your own artistry. Its going to be awesome! I know it. So this is a movie from the 80s. Unfortunately I cannot suggest it for you to watch, because they are very naughty teens who are in all day detention in the library, and they make a mess of the place and talk about naughty things and, well, just plain naughty, so well, you can't watch it. However these are the main characters: In the simplest and in their own terms, Claire is a princess, Andrew an athlete, John a criminal, Brian a brain, and Allison a basket case. Originally there's lots of teasing and bickering and cruelness, but at some point they start to become friends. Unfortunately, at another point they talk about what happens on Monday if they see each other at school. Would they acknowledge each other if they were walking past each other in the hallway? Would they pretend they don't exsist? It doesn't bode well for them. Eventually they come around, but it doesn't happen until the end of the movie. Anyways, the whole point of the story is that I was totally lucky when I was in high school. We were all friends (whether close friends or acquaintances) no matter if we were a sport, a princess, a nerd, a criminal (don't think there were any of those) or a basket case (that was me, btw). No matter what, we treated each other the same. You don't often think of it at the time, but how are you going to remember the high school years? Hating and not acknowledging each other? I love how IMDB states: Five high school students, all different stereotypes, meet in detention, where they pour their hearts out to each other, and discover how they have a lot more in common than they thought. Yes! We are like each other in more ways than we thought! We need to remember these things! Originally I was just watching this for the heck of it, because I remember being amused. I am not part of the 80s generation. I am the 90s, which was all about being emotional and in constant angst. CONSTANT ANGST.
Kanie Seiya, a smart and extremely narcissistic high school student, believes that the beautiful but reserved Sento Isuzu has invited him on a date at an amusement park called Amagi Brilliant Park. Much to his chagrin, not only is the location a run-down facility, the supposed date is merely a recruitment tour where Sento and Princess Latifa Fleuranza, the owner of the theme park, ask him to become the park's new manager. Their cause for desperation? As stipulated in a land-use contract, Amagi has less than three months to meet a quota of 500,000 guests, or the park will be closed for good and the land redeveloped by a greedy real-estate company.
Seiya is won over by the revelation that Amagi is no ordinary amusement park; many of its employees are Maple Landers—mysterious magical beings who live in the human world and are nourished by the energy created by people having fun. Entrusted with the hopes and dreams of this far-off enchanted land, Seiya must now use his many skills to bring Amagi back on its feet, or watch it crumble before his eyes. Charging everyone up for all the fun we'll be having tonight! My desk seems surrounded today. Dash appears to be staring at Dot because he was naughty, so I made him stay in the corner. You guys have to come join Miss Jill and I tonight! We are going to have way too much fun and you do not want to miss this extravaganza!
Saw that a fellow librarian had suggested getting this in an old email. They're called Circuit Scribe. Wow. How fun do these look? What do you think? Maybe a new thing to add to the Chili Makerspace? They are pretty old (like maybe three years! GASP!) however, how cool to be able to combine technology AND art! WOW! My head just exploded! :) What do you think you would create with them? I went to this program that was held by the Gay Alliance of Rochester. It was pretty eye opening. I need to make sure that Chili Library is a safe place for EVERYONE to feel comfortable. I hope that I can do just that.
I found this website too ... The Trevor Project - The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth. The Junior Friends and I went crazy with the craft supplies and these sweet items that Google came up with called Cardboard. Thanks to Instructables and Dodo case for this wonderful opportunity! The instructions were perfect, with little notes on the cardboard for where everything had to be, but we could have used some more sugar because we had a hard time getting it together. Still, it was a lot of fun. |
